Best Sunscreens for Oily, Combination And Blemish Prone Skin
Does the thought of applying a heavy sunscreen that leaves your skin feeling greasy and shiny fill you with fear? Do you find that wearing SPFs in the summer causes breakouts? There is nothing worse than wearing an SPF that not only makes you feel even oiler but causes spots as well. What you don’t want to do is go without sun cream however tempting it may seem, it’s just not an option. The secret is, you just need to use the right SPF that will help protect your skin, control oil and prevent breakouts. Ignoring all the heavy, sticky, greasy SPFs and the sunscreens that leave a white cast and cause spots, I have drilled down and tested the best of the rest. Here you will find the best SPFs for oily and combination skin and best sunscreens that won’t cause blemishes and will even help to tackle breakouts whilst protecting your skin.
Best SPF For Controlling Oiliness
Eucerin Sun Protection SPF50+ Oil Control Sun Gel-Cream
Eucerin Sun Protection SPF50+ Oil Control Sun Gel-Cream is tried, tested and trusted. This SPF is fantastic, it initially feels moisturising but after a few minutes the skin is completely matte and the SPF feels like it’s completely absorbed. This delivers a long-lasting dry matte finish, your skin feels less oily during the day and this SPF won’t clog the pores. The technology is impressive as well as ensuring you have broad spectrum and high energy visible light defence. The sunscreen also combines DNA repair technology (which I think is a must in sunscreen as it’s the ultimate level of cell protection) and 8hr anti shine technology. My rating 10/10
Heliocare Gel Oil Free SPF50
Heliocare Gel Oil Free SPF50 is a close second to Eucerin and it’s only because when it goes on it feels slightly heavier but after a few minutes it leaves a beautiful matte finish, just like Eucerin. I am a huge fan of Heliocare sunscreens, and they also have a liquid which is one of my favourite moisturising SPFs. The technology they have created is very impressive, with advanced filters and systems which ensure a broad spectrum of protection against UVA and UVB rays. Fernblock® which is found in all Heliocare products powerfully defends the skin cells from damage caused by the sun. Heliocare have also added anti-bacterial, anti-microbial and sebum-controlling technology (which means less bacteria and less oil which equals less breakouts). This makes this sun tan lotion perfect if you have an oily or combination skin and really struggle with sun care during the summer months. My rating 9/10
Best SPF For A Matte Finish
Alpha H Protection Plus Daily SPF 50+
Alpha H Protection Plus Daily SPF 50+ is the most gorgeous texture, a silky matte SPF with an ultra-sheer tint to help hide any imperfections and the ultra-light weight cream absorbs rapidly to leave no greasiness or shine. You know me, I am not going to recommend anything that isn’t a broad spectrum and Alpha H have covered just that. They have also included ingredients like pomegranate seed oil to provide antioxidant protection from free radicals. These skin cell scavengers will magnify the damage inflicted onto the skin on a sunny day, so it’s always important to look out for products that can give the full protection including antioxidants. Pomegranate seed oil will also bring hydration and soothe the skin thanks to the anti-inflammatory properties. If you don’t struggle with breakouts but suffer from shiny, oily skin then you will love this matte finish as it can also double up as a primer that goes perfectly under makeup. My rating 10/10
Best SPF For Breakouts
La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] SPF 30 with Niacinamide
La Roche Posay Effaclar Duo [+] SPF 30 with Niacinamide is a brilliant 2 in 1 product. It has both ingredients to tackle breakouts and sunscreen to protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays. If you are already applying prescription retinoids at night-time, I would recommend you look at Eucerin or Heliocare instead. La Roche Posay Effaclare has been created to help reduce the appearance of spots, breakouts, and blemishes and they have gone to the extent of running clinicals to prove clear skin is possible within 4 weeks. La Roche Posay use the exclusive L’Oreal ingredient LHA which gently exfoliates and unblocks the pores (so you probably don’t need this if you are using prescription retinoids at night-time). Niacinamide is a brilliant ingredient to have included as it will help reduce the oil flow and the redness of any angry spots. My rating 10/10
