Expert Review: Clarins New Double Serum with Epigenetics Innovation
After 5 years of research, clinical study on over 60 twins, 6 patents and 27 active ingredients Clarins has raised the bar in skincare with its latest Double Serum, now enhanced by cutting-edge epigenetics technology. This advanced formula has been created to tackle the signs of ageing such as lines, wrinkles, loss of firmness, lack of radiance, and enlarged pores due to loss of skin elasticity. Your lifestyle choices can accelerate these signs of ageing. With its innovative approach, the serum promises a powerful solution. Clarins Double Serum is worth the investment if you’re looking for a next-level anti-ageing serum. It promises to be more than just skincare—it’s a revolution for your genes.
What is Clarins Double Serum?
The New Clarins Double Serum is the next generation in age-defying skincare! The brand promises to regulate these genetic “messages,” optimising how our skin functions to combat the visible effects of ageing caused by external aggressors and lifestyle factors. Ultimately, this next generation of skincare is controlling the messaging and the impact our lifestyle choices have on our genes. 🧬
What is Epigenetics in Skincare
To understand epigenetics, we need to understand what our genes do first. You have hundreds of genes and they send messages to the skin; your genes control so many elements of the skin from hair colour, eye and skin colour to skin renewal and the production of proteins. The best analogy I can make is when you buy a brand-new car: you choose the make, the model, the interior materials, the colour, and everything comes straight from the factory - imagine that is like your genes, preset and pre-decided.
Epigenetics is how that car ages over and above normal wear and tear it’s all down to how you drive it, the road conditions, the potholes you hit, the curbs you accidentally mount, the way you take care of the car, the yearly services you skip, the weather conditions you drive the car in. This is epigenetics and this is just like your skin, and this is why epigenetic skincare science is incredibly exciting.
The way you drive the car, a.k.a. look after your skin is impacting and influencing the way those genes are being controlled and expressed, imagine these genes are like a light switch and your lifestyle choices could be preventing that gene from being switched on and doing what it needs to do for the skin. Epigenetics in skincare is like turning on that light switch and activating those genes.
What are the benefits of using this on my skin?
As well as the unique Epi-Ageing Defence technology that addresses the signs of ageing linked to lifestyle-induced ageing. There are 5 new pure active molecules which have been chosen to have an incredible affinity and the ability to stimulate the skin's 5 vital functions. Powerful peptides have been included to aid regeneration, especially the production of collagen and elastin to bring firmness and improve the skin’s elasticity. A well-known ingredient and loved by many scientists is horse chestnut, known for its ability to deliver powerful antioxidants in this case, Clarins have combined horse chestnut with teasel extract to bring radiance and oxygenation. It wouldn’t be a super serum without ingredients to fight and protect the skin from oxidative stress, the invisible skin ager that damages collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. Last but certainly not least are hydration and nutrition, two really important factors for cell health. The type of hyaluronic acid Clarins have chosen is interesting; acetylated hyaluronic acid increases bioavailability and stability which is particularly important as hyaluronic acid is known to be damaged easily by free radicals.
Which skin types and conditions would benefit from Clarins Double Serum?
Due to the formula being 2/3 water-soluble and 1/3 oil-soluble, most skin types will love this formula, the texture is silky, and non-greasy and rapidly absorbs into the skin. Due to the Epi-ageing Defence technology which is designed to address visible signs of ageing linked to lifestyle-induced ageing, my recommendation would be for those aged 30 and upwards will get the best results. If you have dry and dehydrated skin, you will definitely appreciate the texture however I believe all skin types and ethnicities will love this new formula.
What’s the difference between the previous Double Serum and this latest launch?
The 9th generation of the Clarins' Double Serum features epigenetic research and the ability to tackle head-on how your lifestyle choices can accelerate these signs of ageing. Due to this, the 8th generation I believe wouldn’t deliver as many age-defying benefits as the 9th generation. The formula, which is synonymous with Double Serum is a dual phase and this is noticeably more silky in the 9th generation, this would be due to the gorgeous blend of oil and water ingredients, which Clarins calls the golden ratio for the skin barrier.
Final Thoughts
Don’t shoot the messenger, but my mind is on overdrive thinking—what if you combined this with retinoids? Retinoids are known for promoting collagen production, and paired with Clarins’ epigenetics technology, the potential for skin rejuvenation could be truly groundbreaking! I can’t recommend this enough my skin loves it, I have been using this over my vitamin C in the day and I am about to start applying it over retinoids. This makes a brilliant day serum all year round but especially autumn and winter.
